Branding China – Talent 1st, Guanxi later

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

One of the biggest and most important projects for the coming year lies ahead, the ‘Dragon exam’ to win back consumer trust and overcome the ‘Made In’ lack of self-confidence.
Branding is more than an Ad at NY Times Square, Li Ning versus Nike or billboards at UK Olympics, branding starts at home where products and creators have their roots, to win back consumer’s trust of the Made and Create in China.
China has great talent and produces nearly 60% of all Italian, French, Swiss, US luxury design products. The creative industry need to differentiate between high-middle-low level Quality and Creativity. Here experienced implementation is needed to support and select the creative leaders. Chinese Fine Arts became very powerful and is well respected in China and abroad, now its time to focus on bigger disciplines.

Why Do We Need A Common Dream?

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Discussions on Weibo (China’s Twitter) increased about Helen Wang’s newly translated book The Chinese Dream. Questioning: What is the Chinese dream? Wang try’s to find a simple answer by comparing China with the US American dream and fails. At least Wang’s book brought up a discussion on defining common values, which are in China more important than copying other cultures. Chinese people are pragmatic and for them good health, good fortune, and a good family are their assets.
The ones following this blog remembering a post of a postcard-flyer from 2009 picked up in a Cafe in Shanghai, mentioning: American Airlines – America loves China. So, honestly: Do we need a common dream?

Nostalgic Cheongsam Blogger

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

Young people normally don’t care much about the vanishing traditional fashion styles, for most of them global-western-uniform-fashion styles are just so tempting. Nowadays traditional Cheongsam dresses known as Qipao are most likely seen as cooperate uniforms worn by restaurant, hotel and spa staff. The elegant Qipao dresses got replaced by global fashion. China’s past beauty seams to be threatened with extinction. What great elegance could be spotted on the streets if people would just believe more in their own talent and beauty.
