Utopia Nowhere: Views of Progress and Nostalgia is not an exhibition about the problems of urban development per se; it’s about where civilization is heading….
Twelve artists illustrate their views, tackling issues of the past embodied by tradition, the future embodied by progress and, the present. Utopia Nowhere aims to illustrate how such concepts relate to one another in the context of culture and society, at both global and local levels. Through a variety of visual art mediums, the exhibition is presented in three approaches; attitudes toward social and environmental progress in China, reflections on Chinese culture and tradition, and contemporary nostalgia. Text, Diana Freundl, curator at Art Plus Shanghai Gallery, opening 15 Sept, 5pm.

Since the western fashion scene is waiting for some fresh young fashion talents from China it seems easier for Chinese fashionista-blogger entering the international fashion stage. New entry, former Fudan Student Zalia from Shanghai likes presenting herself in some awesome retro styles – that could have inspired Anna Sui or Rai Kawakubo, and has now catched international attention. Avant garde platform Not Just A Label UK presented Zalia’s ready to order printed shirts. Hoping that this is not just a volatile encounter, we are looking forward seeing a full range of her designs.
